March 25, 2026 | SF Giants 0 - 7 NY Yankees
The San Francisco Giants start the home opener on a negative side, but if there is a silver lining to the game, Webb, Winn, and Kilian were able to keep Aaaron Judge scoreless. This match being the first game of year, I won't overanalyze every detail. It takes a while to get the Giants going and playing consistent, we all know that.
Logan Webb this match was a ghost of his consistent, top-performing self he has been for the last few years in the mlb. Like I said, its one game, but if we have to talk about anything, the amount of first pitch hits he gave up, was too many. Webb started off the game lacking control over most of his pitches but I figured he would need some time to settle in and get going. Logan Webb's sweeper was putting in work, often getting batters to chase but his staple changeup kept getting punished, leading to the 7 earned runs. Like I said, first game of the season, I'm not going to criticize the players yet, it takes a while to get them going.
The San Francisco Giants batting has been their downfall for the last few years, too much inconsistency and pop-flys. Today was no different. The only batters to reach a base of a hit were Arraez, Devers, and Ramos. Obviously we have Devers, a historic big hitter, and Ramos with a similar profile but what we have lacked are runners on bases. We have needed consistent base hitters on the roster and Jung Hoo Lee brought that last season until his injury. A positive I saw from opening day, is that the batters weren't afraid to swing. Last season, the Giants had a large amount of at-bats that they simply chose not to swing in. The approach seems to be, getting contact on the ball early. Reiterating, that it's the first game of the year, so this game should not be blown out of proportion.
My biggest issue with the match today was the Netflix broadcasting. I understand that audiences want to gain insight on players, through interviews, but leave that for either post-game interviews or in between commerical breaks. I don't want half of my screen taken up Jameis Winston in the bleachers. It made the game more difficult to watch and focused on topics outside of the pitching and the match. Gradings for players, will come after opening day, hopefully they will have settled in.
